Thank you for participating in the survey titled “15 Years of DEEP & DOPE” that I sent out two weeks ago.
The results, see below, were quite an eye-opener (so many of you have been loyal listeners for so long!).
I am grateful for your input as it will help me in my efforts to rejuvenise DEEP & DOPE DJ mix series.
What did I learn?
I learned that so many of you have been around since I started sharing my DJ mixes on YouTube exactly 15 years ago. I cannot quite believe you are still listening, given how little I have posted these last ten.
I also learned that you like the mixes long but not too long and that you mostly listen at home and at work. So this is background music, which I find fascinating, because a good number of those sets were recorded live for people on a dancefloor. I had assumed House Music was either all-out dancing or all-out taking it easy. Apparently it is both, unless some of you are simply dancing at home and… at work?
And much more as you can read below…
Now that I have a proper read on the situation, here is the DEEP & DOPE comeback plan.
- A two-hour mix every week or second week and every track in it new to the show to forever keep things fresh. There is so much music I need to share with you.
- I will also be reuploading the mixes that were taken down over the years. Sade, Cesária Évora, A Tribe Called Quest, bossa nova, classic jazz and others. Labels have grown more forgiving of DJ mixes, which is a polite way of saying they now appreciate the money that streaming of DJ sets generate.
- And I will bring together the many different ways some of you have been supporting the show into one place. The more resources it has, the better the listening gets for everyone. More on that soon.
- Video mixes are now the rage on the Internet so I will start recording the DJ sets played in various places and spaces around the world to make for interesting viewing time for those who might be into this. (Personally, I just press start and minimise the window however some people as well hotels, lounges and public spaces appreciate the video footage)
Oh, and it turns out most of you still go out to see DJs play. That one genuinely surprised me. I had better get back to booking international gigs which I had given up on.
Thank you again for completing the survey and most of all for your years of support and patience.
Merci!
