About The Big Journey

JaBig’s Big Journey is a world tour by car that will consist of DJ performances in as many clubs and tertiary education campuses in the 193 countries around the world as possible.

The objective is to realise a lifelong dream, set historic multiple Guinness World Records and most importantly bring attention to the fact that one billion people go to be bed hungry at night because they do not have enough.

It is a DJ/humanitarian/adventure trip that will start in Montreal, tour North America, Europe, Asia, Oceania, South America, Central America, North America, Europe and Africa via Antarctica, the Caribbean and many other remote (but populated!) places around the world.

Unlike most world trips that consist of an individual or group of people who visit one country over another, I will actually be performing along the way following a carefully crafted tour schedule.

How long will it last? At this time of writing, I am betting at least five years. I already have two years planned out for the first leg which will be North America (Canada and USA). Again, unlike most globetrotters, I will be performing and I want to tour as many major and notable cities and town as possible.

I already have over 300 cities and towns circled in the USA and just over a 100 in Canada and quick Maths suggest that it would take me two years of non-stop touring just to cover North America. Imagine more populous continents!

Why go on such a daring journey? Travelling and seeing the world is probably every human’s dreams. When I was in primary school, I read Jules Vernes’ “Autour du Monde en 80 Jours” (“Around the World in 80 Days”). I decided right there and then that I’d also circumnavigate the Globe.

As the years went by, the dream became more clear and I also started DJing and adulthood kicked in. I traveled here and there but was too afraid psychologically to undertake the trip.

In August 2009, when I hit 30, I spent time all day wondering what I had accomplished. Sure, I was a successful DJ and entrepreneur. Sure, I had many friends. Sure, I was well-traveled. But I felt that I still have unfinished business.

I asked myself what prevented me to just go ahead and embark on the world tour and I realised that it all came down to self-doubts. I knew it could be done. After all, I have created many projects. But the war was more inside me. What would people say? What if I failed? What if people said that it was futile?

Then I decided that for once in my life, I was going to make myself happy and do something for me and not to please the world.

That same night, I started actively strategizing for the Big Journey by doing some research and brainstorming on the best ways to make this trip have not only have an impact on my life but the life of many around the world. And since, I always did some global hunger awareness on a small scale, I figured that would be the ultimate platform to get the message to a worldwide audience and trump hunger once and for all.

Within 3 hours, I really had the concept down to a pat and from there the countdown started…
