What is JaBig’s Big Journey?

The Big Journey is the first DJ world tour by car in the history of the performing arts and entertainment.  It is the ultimate round-the-world road trip as well as the adventure of a lifetime.

My goal in this epic, overland expedition is to help make the world a better place for the one billion people on the planet living in extreme poverty & suffering from hunger, especially children.  I will pack my music, DJ gear, camera, clothes, and laptop into my car and drive all around the world from Montreal, my hometown. I intend to visit and perform in every single country around the Globe, ending up back home five to six years later.

(According to the United Nations there are currently 193 countries in the world.)

So this is what it comes down to–one DJ with a passion for travel and a sense of adventure, on his way to discover and change the world in his own unique way. (You can read more about me on my profile or bio page).

5 to 6 Years, you ask?

Yes, that’s right. Traveling around the world and back is no hop across the pond. The travel itself will take a minimum of 3 years, and then I must take into account stops to perform, as well as time spent raising awareness for world hunger–not to mention the time I will certainly set aside for meeting old friends and making new ones along my journey.  To some people, 5 to 6 years may feel like a lifetime but I will not have it any other way!

For this trip, I will contribute my resources (physical, professional, intellectual and financial) to fight global hunger and eradicate extreme poverty because I strongly believe that it is our duty to watch out for those who are in dire need, so as to prepare a better future for today’s young generation.

Unlike almost all globetrotters, I will travel each country on working visas (artists and performers need them too!) as opposed to tourism visas, so as to indicate that this is no vagabond adventure but a journey with a distinct purpose. I can already imagine the logistical nightmares…

All work and no play, you ask?

Ok. I admit that I am a fun-loving person! You better believe that on this trip I will take the time to smell the air, meet up with the many friends I have scattered all over the planet, eat diverse cuisines, meet some of my heroes, discover new things, and have new experiences.  Ultimately, this trip is all about the journey and not the final destination.

What are the Origins of the Big Journey?

After spending my childhood and twenties thinking about it, at age 30, I decided to stop making excuses for myself–I would follow my dream to travel around the globe for hunger.

My itinerary will be pretty straightforward.  I will start and end in Montreal, but the Big Journey will be a multi-stage and multi-stop car expedition with a number of regional legs:

Prologue aka The Warmup: Montreal + Quebec (Canada)

Stage 1: North America (Canada & USA)

Stage 2: Europe + Western Asia

Stage 3: Asia (Northern, Central, Southern, Eastern, Southeastern)

Stage 4: Oceania + Antarctica

Stage 5: South America

Stage 6: Central America

Stage 7: Caribbean

Stage 8: Africa

Stage 9: Western & South Eastern Europe (Spain, Portugal, France, England, Germany)

Epilogue aka The Home Run: USA (DC, NY & MA) + Canada (ON & QC)
